Upper Harz Mining Museum
 |
The Upper Harz Mining Museum in the Clausthal-Zellerfeld area is one of Germany's oldest museums of technology. The exhibition traces mining history from the Middle Ages to the end of the 19th century and, together with original mining installations on display in the museum's grounds, it offers visitors an insight into the technical achievements of the mining industry. On view in the vaulted cellars are geological and mineralogical gems from the Harz region. Through careful lighting the visitor is treated to a display which highlights the beauty of the minerals in the best possible way.

Moenchehaus-Museum of Contemporary Art
 |
‘Art for All’ is Goslar’s idea for drawing attention to contemporary art in a town where the 20th century, until recently, had made little impact.
The birth of the Association for Art and the Promotion of Art in 1974 brought with it the Kaiserring (an award given to contemporary artists for outstanding contributions to art since 1975). In 1978 the Association opened a museum of modern art located inside the historical Moenchehaus (built in 1528) with adjacent buildings, an idyllic garden featuring sculptures of various artists and an art gallery inside the museum. Furthermore it developed a programme of exhibitions and performances entitled ‘Contemporary Art’ and set up a group on modern art in a historical urban context as well as “Art Sponsorships” with loans to public buildings. In order to promote young artists the Association awards them with the Kaiserring grant (since 1984) and set up a collection of contemporary art with paintings, sculptures, objects, installments and graphic arts in particular those of Kaiserring award and grant winners as well as many other renowned artists.
